John F. Curran concentrates in labor & employment, workers’ compensation and general litigation.  Mr. Curran has experience as a litigator and negotiator for public and private organizations, not for profit, as well as large and small employers.


​​Mr. Curran began his law career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Criminal Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office from 1998 through 2003, where he obtained significant trial experience as a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor.  Thereafter, Mr. Curran transferred to the Civil Actions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where he eventually became Chief of the Special Litigation Division supervising over 45 Assistant State’s Attorney’s in the areas of Labor & Employment, Torts & Civil Rights, Real Estate Taxation and Municipal Litigation.


Mr. Curran has tried jury trials in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and argued appellate matters in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mr. Curran successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements with both sworn and non-sworn bargaining units, advised the Executive Staff on termination and disciplinary matters of all ADA, FMLA, FLSA and Military Leave compliance matters, and was lead counsel for several staff reductions with both unionized and at-will employees.  Mr. Curran was lead counsel in defending several class actions and successfully guided the County’s Juvenile Detention Facility through Federal Receivership in the U.S. District Court.  In 2017, Mr. Curran joined Power & Cronin.


​Mr. Curran has enjoyed a distinguished career in public service and elective office beginning as a Village Trustee in Woodridge from 2005 through 2008, then as a County Board Member for DuPage County from 2008 through 2017, serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board from 2011 through 2017.  Since 2017, Mr. Curran has served as an Illinois State Senator for the 41st Senate District.  Throughout Mr. Curran’s career in public office, he has demonstrated a record of reform and accomplishment.
